Cigars: A Lasting Obsession

Cigars are among the most popular talismans of classical masculinity. It is perhaps not so surprising when you consider how many film stars have incorporated cigars in their roles. Those who have never tried a cigar may wonder why there is so much esteem given to what appears at first to be an uninspiring stick of the same material that makes up cigarettes.

It is easy to make the error of considering the use of cigars an insignificant vice. Enthusiasts understand the value of a great roll, though. Cigar lovers walk around with their cigars, lit or unlit, meeting people, socializing, partying, or just spending quality alone time.

Socialization is facilitated by each puff. A lot of cigar lovers end up discussing the brands and makers they love best. They talk about the finest cigar brands and where they get them.

Cameroon is known for putting out excellent leaves. Indonesia and the Philippines join the ranks of Latin countries when it comes to superb tobacco. These products make their way to America through less strict rules than those imposed on cigarettes; they are exempt from many of the distribution regulations implemented on the sales of cigarettes and are not required to mention health risks.

These items are sold as self-serve items in local convenience stores, pharmacies and grocery stores, as well as in a few restaurants, hotel shops, vending machines, and online. It is slightly harder to find some of the more esteemed cigar makers' products, as they are carried only by particular sellers. The true aficionados get their premium sticks from well-established cigar chains such as United Cigar Stores, A&P and Woolworth.

Those highest up the price scale are by Altadis, the number one (in terms of size) manufacturer. Altadis’s biggest markets are those in the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras. The smaller "cousin" of the cigar is another product from the group, actually.

Another major producer would be the company known as Swedish Match. They produce products in Germany, Belgium, Honduras, Indonesia, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. Swedish Match also makes pipe tobacco, snuff and lighters.

Then there are the famous offerings from the Fuente Family. Since 1912, this family of cigar lovers and producers has been selling its popular Arturo Fuente and Montesino cigar types. And almost a century later, it released the Fuente Fuente OpusX cigar, which was later considered the first quality wrapper grown in the Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, the oldest cigar manufacturer from the same Latin American country is the León family. They have spent more than a hundred years of working in the cigar industry. Many enthusiasts regard them highly for products such as the León Jimenes.

Too many people use cigars for them to go away any time soon. Some people do not even need to smoke a wrap of cigar to know its significance in society or its value, since most cigars are packaged as truly rare and exotic products. Many famous personalities have smoked cigars even before you, and you may well share something in common with them each time you light up.
